¿Qué garantías me ofrece Love Speaking?

So you´re taking the TOEIC test, congratulations!

Love Speaking is here to give you some very helpful tips on how to successfully prepare yourself for the test every week. Read our top 3 tips for this week below.

Tip #1: Use mass media

One of the best ways to prepare for the test is to familiarize yourself with real life English. Watch television, listen to radio reports, and read newspapers and magazines. Pay special attention to ads, letters, weather and traffic reports, coupons, and special announcements. It is a great way to learn common idiomatic expressions

Tip #2: Use free websites

There are many web sites that offer free practice tests and samples. Type TOEIC into any search engine and start practising! Surfing the web is a great way to practise your reading and listening too. If you are interested in a certain topic, such as snowboarding, type that into a search engine.

Tip #3: Keep an English journal

Keeping a journal doesn’t have to be an account of your daily activities. You can write anything in a journal, such as how your studying is coming along, what your new favourite word is and why, or lists of new vocabulary when reading a certain article that day.

It’s a lovely day, isn’t it?

Wine tasting in La Rioja

This week’s magazine feature is about Spain’s La Rioja and the wine that is produced there. In the article, it discusses the difference between two of the vineyards in La Rioja and you can also test your listening skills in the audio section where two friends are speaking about wine tasting. You can read a short extract from the article below:

Magazine extract

If you are in La Rioja you are probably there for the wine. With so many vineyards to choose from, picking the right tasting experience depends a lot on what you like. Two vineyards which offer contrasting experiences are Agrícola Labastida in the hill village Labastida, and Bodega Eguren Ugarte in Páganos. While family-run Agrícola Labastida is small and specialized, Eguren Ugarte is one of the biggest vineyards in La Rioja. Agrícola Labastida develops organic and bio-dynamic wines while Bodegas Eguren Ugarte is less concerned by pesticides.

Description

The English alternative rock band presents its new album, ‘The 2nd Law’. The new work by the group made up of Matthew Bellamy, Christopher Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard is influenced by dubstep, marking an unexpected new step in their successful music career.

The members met during their stay at Teignmouth Community College and Coombeshead College in the early 1990s. They each played with different groups until 1994, when they got together under the name Gothic Plague, which they later changed to Fixed Penalty.

After winning a local battle of the bands, they decided to leave Teignmouth, quit college and their old jobs, and adopted what would be their definitive name: Muse. From then on, their career has been one continuous ascent to fame, boosted by critics and fans alike.

The band has got a very special relationship with Madrid: on November 28, 2009, a large number of cameras recorded the show they did in the capital to make the music video ‘Resistance’, and their concert at Vicente Calderón Stadium in June 2010 can be described as historic.

TOEIC Top Tips 4

So you´re taking the TOEIC test, congratulations!

Love Speaking is here to give you some very helpful tips on how to successfully prepare yourself for the test every week. Read our top 3 tips for this week below.

Tip #1: Manage your time

When you are doing practice tests, you should always be aware of the time. Never allow yourself an open ended study session. You will have to learn to work efficiently within the timeframe of the actual exam.

On test day, you should be especially careful in the Reading section. You will have 75 minutes to complete Parts V, VI and VII. Many students spend too long on section V or VI because they find these the most difficult. Don’t spend more than 30 minutes on the first two parts. Part VII will take you at least 40 minutes, and it is worth a lot of points, especially if you find it an easier section.

Tip #2: Listen quickly

When you are studying for the TOEIC test, do not practice by rewinding the tape. On the day of your test you won’t have any control over the speed of the listening section. You will not even have time to think for very long between questions.

If you do not know the answer, take your best guess. Don’t look back at questions when you are waiting for another question to start or you can lose track of what you need to focus on for the next question.

Tip #3: Practice reading aloud

Reading out loud will help your listening and reading comprehension skills. In order to understand English more quickly, it is important that you understand the rhythm of the language. Read from textbooks, flyers, newspapers, and even children’s novels. You can also tape yourself and listen to how you sound.
